sooo since i have some free time perhaps i'll put up some of my newer lyrical writings. actually maybe just one song for now; my newest. perhaps it will even be used and turned into a song by december 20. however, with the melody breaks and all... it's almost weird to put into "written format." to me anyway. it has more flow when sung. here goes:
The Only Way
Do you remember when we had that water fight in the park? or when we took that long, long drive through the dark? when i reached over and brushed the hair away from your ear and i told you that i am here to stay you'll never have to fear you looked at me with those big brown eyes smiled and sighed your hand found mine and our breathing came in perfect time
oh i just gotta let you know i gotta let you know that i've got something to say that first of all, i want a best friend by my side everday but most of all, i want that best friend to be you it's the only way well it's the only way yeah it's the only, only way
do you remember when we climbed that big old tree right to the top? in december just you and me all bundled up or when we took the canoe down the river and stopped for lunch? yeah it was such an adventure we had so much fun do you remember when it rained and we built that fort right in your house? or when i brought chocolate cake to your door you kissed me on the mouth
(chorus)
well you make me wanna be so, so strong for you and i will give to you so, so much love you won't know what to do and we will be a reminder to our God that what a great idea is this thing called love yeah He'll look down smile and sigh as He watches us and i'm sure He'll laugh when my face i try to hide oh when i blush
(chorus)
(end!)

Long are the days How restless the nights Life, it aint easy when all it becomes Is a fight
Tired, weary soul You're beautiful, beautiful Don't give up now We'll make it, we'll pull through Somehow
Don't give up now We'll make it somehow ___
written in 4/4, 5/4 and 6/8. constantly switches. it's a rather pretty song i must humbly admit. can't wait to flesh it out a little more. though it will remain for the most part acousticesque.

Daddy Don't Go
please don't turn on the light i don't want you to see me tonight inadequate is what i am i am a broken man yet you piece me back together time and time again smile at me and say everything will be ok
oh! if only my tongue was the pen of a skillful writer then i could sing the most apologetic words you've ever heard but i know you see past all that you grab my hand, take me where i'm at no matter how i act i want you to know
please daddy don't go. daddy don't go.
there's a lion in the street! i will be slain tonight! excuses, excuses how easy i can recite tell me where i should go and i will tell you why i should not spirit versus flesh i am both cold and hot
oh! if only my tongue was the pen of a skillful writer then i could sing the most apologetic words you've ever heard but i know you see past all that you grab my hand, take me where i'm at no matter how i act i want you to know
please daddy don't go. daddy don't go.
i read through your letters tonight the ones you wrote some time ago and i am convinced that nothing could seperate me from your love not death or life angels or demons my fears for today or worries about tomorrow or even the powers of hell can keep your love away whether high in the sky or in the deepest ocean nothing can seperate me from you
daddy don't go everything will be okay
i think my favorite part about this song - minus the fact that i find the chorus really catchy and the song as a whole personal; duh - but it's written in 5/4 time with some 6/8 thrown in! whoo! haha. and the layering. love layering. can't wait to jam this tune out more.

"Alright everyone. Summer is practically here. It's time to celebrate. What better way than to go to a show featuring two hot bands. That's right. Justin Timberlake is coming soon! Kidding! But true! But expensive! So come to the West End Cultural Center on June 9th to catch Funk Dance Jazz Fusion masters Flying Fox and The Hunter Gatherers and some other band called Blue Sky Addicts. We promise you will be able to dance to at least half of the collective songs from both bands. That translates into a solid hour of dancing!
To summarize. Flying Fox + DANCING + Blue Sky Addicts + DANCING = Flying Blue Dancing Foxes Hunting, Dancing and Gathering ...Sky Addicts.
boom.
JUNE 9th - $10 - Be there!"

as if i didn't have enough of an obsession with cello's. funny thing is, my accomplished cellist friend Sarah was telling me about this group 24 hours ago and today when i walked into The Source my eye caught the big screen tv that was on display with full home theater surround sound. on this screen were a number of cellos. and skulls. lots of skulls. it took me only moments to realize these cello's were playing metal tunes.. and the musicians were doing full on windmills with their hair whilst playing. and that this was indeed the group that Sarah had been talking about. so, i plopped myself down on the floor in front of the tv and began to watch. a worker came by, cranked up the volume and a crowd of fellows started to gather. ha, it was great. the music was incredable! this is the best video i could find on youtube. be amazed!

The fray |

Whoohoo today was neat! at least my morning. my morning was fantastic! it all started with an early morning wake up at 4:33. it's almost freakish how exuberant i am in the morning. "Hey! want some cereal?!" [lets play "guess that character!"] a couple hours later my parents were dropped off at the airport & i had time to kill. 2 hours in fact. two hours until Don's Photo opened up. so i decided i'd get onto Portage and stop at the nearest Tim Hortons. it didn't take me too long to find one. I got settled in my nice little corner by the window with my cup of medium hot chocolate knowing without a shadow of a doubt this rim was going to win me something! stuck headphones on my head, set the ipod to Scandenavian music so the lyrics wouldn't interfere with my head and started to read. read. read. read. The Saint, by Ted DekKer. i started it this morning. it was enthralling! 50 pages in and i am HOOKED. boy, when you sit in a coffee shop for 2 hours you sure see alot of people coming and going. and you also get fun thoughts like, "gee whiz!! III should own and operate one of these things!" haha. people also like to stare. i love playing the staring game. i usually win. you know, stare right back at them until you make them feel uncomfortable and they look away. but today i met my match. Mr. Eyes wouldn't stop staring at me with his piercing brown..or were they green - eyes. i had to look away for fear i might burst out laughing. i don't know why - that's just the feeling i get when i stare at people. well, 2 hours came and went at an incredable speed- i was sad it was gone - but on to Don's i went to see what i might be able to spend my money on! unfortunately, i wasn't willing to lay down $600 on a flash unit so i went to Long and McQuade and bought $4.25 BANJO strings! YES! Banjo! new near-future goal. [aside from wanting to make an offer on a house/yard soon] learn the banjo! i figured since my grandfather was gracious enough to give it to me through his death, i may as well learn how to play it! and it's so versatile! especially in indie music. ha! and i've always loved the sound. so we'll see how this works out. only 4 strings - what could go wrong?
that's basically the most exciting parts of my days. oh, and I love text messaging! it makes me giddy. okay the end bye!
PS: and no, i DID NOT win at Tims... yet! i'll admit though i HAVE been sucked in! oh it's a good thing i don't gamble. cause i'm buying medium hot chocolates like a Banshee in hopes of winning! but it's more then just hoping.. it's an investment! 10 dollars in hot chocolate is worth it if you're winning a car! besides, it's yummy!

U2 - pride |
] |
i have officially been listening to U2 for 24 hours now. funny how you just get into those grooves! WOW has today been fun! i mean, all this snow Snow SNOW!!! apparently the city isn't experiencing HALF the fun we have out here in the country! school's cancelled, all the roads are blown shut and EVERYTHING, i mean EVERYTHING is under alot of snow. but my pickup! oh man my pickup! it can do anything! and i mean anything! it can pull Andy off our driveway. it can pull itself out when it gets burried. it can make it's own roads. i mean, Janice the Beast is unstoppable! so the family made me do a run to town to get pizza supplies and do some banking. and now we get to burry ourselves in our home the rest of the evening and eat pizza and be a family! whoo! i've some more prints up on my deviantart. check em! now, to go pick away at that jazz riff on my fish.

So today i had the urge to bake. it was the first time in about three years i had such an urge to do so - and acted on it. So basically, there was going to be a story here - but i just got bored with it. Ha. deal with it. suffice it to say, dough is always better then cookie. either that or, my cookies are always great until they get into the oven. it's the whole BAKING thing i always struggle with. but at least i'm good at cleaning up my messes! Switchfoot was beyond amazing. Copeland was beyond beautiful. it was a heart-stopping show all the way around. heaps of energy and inspiration. actually, my weekend all around was splendid! Sunday morning Junior and i taught a sunday school in an inner city church that's just starting up downtown. it was a bucket-o-fun! the kids were fantastic and we really clicked well with several boys. i'd love to volunteer there again! the whole morning just flowed so well. saturday was playdate at Meeche's cabin! amazing times! snowshoeing, hot chocolate, movies, man-sandwitches, very chilly cabins, wet dog, breakers that kept tripping, cookies, kid shows on the radio, talking talking talking, good good times. and tomorrow is Date Night! hurrah! i'm excited! i love those....

first, a post about some fantastic events coming up that everyone should at least have the chance of hearing about! 1) MARCH 8 & 9. HAWKSLEY WORKMAN!!! at that Marlborough centre place. yeah, nice venue. on Gary st. i think. you know where it is. Obviously the thursday show is the place to be -cause that's where all us cool kids will be. Tix are $31.50 after all those silly charges 8:00 pm.
2) Camerata Nova. March 10th and 11th. But the 11th is the Sunday show at 3 pm. obviously you'll wanna be there too cause that's where even more cool kids will be. St. Mary's Cathedral - 353 St. Mary's Ave. here's the thing. my buddy keith was telling me about this choir ensemble that sings very odd, talented, sometimes bizzarre, sometimes throaty music. from medievel chants to contemporary tunes. i was very curious, looked em up online, www.cameratanova.com and was QUITE intruiged! so basically, a whole bunch of us are going to their performance on that Sunday. tix are $18 for adults, $8 for students. [$15 if you're a senior....] Check em out. the event we're seeing is called Musica Hispanica. should be a very grand, interesting time!
that is all for events you should attend! Rach is singing on Saturday! yay! i'm so excited!

pretty much the best story ever. i'm sure i'm going to wake up as a super hero. the majority of you will probably never hear this story unless you are around me the next couple of days. it was pretty much the best adventure ever involving explosions, multiple rescue vehicles, unimaginably bight flashes of light, my buddy, and my pickup truck. and then we ate a million philipeno spring rolls. as you can tell i'm just stalling time waiting for terence to come back. dun dun dun. tomorrow = playdate at the [frozen] lake! three cheers!

Silence Through Injustice - tear the sky open |

Man, it's so hard to concentrate on what i want to write when this music just makes me wanna dance! and golly, where to start? MEXICO WAS AMAZING TIMES 38723875-75-723-875237706530-235.... hmm... dashes.. that's an.. odd number. but you get it, right? life changing, altering, challenging, touching, encouraging. UGH. obviously resorting to ape-like vocabulary is the only way to get my point across. but it's amazing how God can take one week and completely reshape your future and plans. your future plans. and not only that - but the peace that comes with it to reassure you. the peace that comes to reassure your parents. when God speaks to you and says the same thing to your parents. when there's unity. all around. and how utterly excited i am at the thought! and just how much sense it all makes. Mmm, i like life. dream big. never let go of the promises God has given you. be persistent. if your dreams don't scare you, you're not dreaming big enough.
[you might be a little curious as to what i'm even TALKING about here. but i'll keep it to myself for a little while as i solidify my plans and so forth]
